2023 William Howard Taft Lecture
This year, Sara Razi, Global Co-Chair of the Simpson Thacher’s Antitrust and Trade Regulation Practice and counsel to Change, Inc. in its sale to UnitedHealth Group, and Daniel Haar, Chief of the Appellate Section of the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, will serve as co-Lecturers on the topic of “Litigating the Fix” in merger cases. The Taft Lecture will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Penn Club in New York City from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The event will include a continental breakfast and reception before the Lecture begins, two Lectures of approximately 40 minutes each, a robust Q&A period following the Lectures, and a private lunch to follow.
The Taft Lecture seeks to connect practicing attorneys, economists, academics, and students by way of a scholarly presentation bearing on a challenging issue in contemporary antitrust law. The Lecture commemorates President and Chief Justice Taft’s many contributions to antitrust law as judge, president, and chief justice and particularly marks his having conceived the rule of reason in his landmark Sixth Circuit decision in Addyston Pipe & Steel Co. To extend the impact of the Taft Lecture, the Columbia Business Law Review will publish the Taft proceedings in the form of law review articles in the months following the Taft Lecture.
