2025 Disability Rights and Justice Series: Civil Commitment

This program will examine recent amendments to the Mental Hygiene Law expressly permitting involuntary confinement based on a patient's inability to "provide for their own essential needs," expanding the role of nurse practitioners, and easing the pathway for recurrent AOT petitions, as well as a discussion of recent federal policy changes on civil commitment and the horizon of mental health law.
