2025 Disability Rights and Justice Series: Ethical Considerations in Health Care Decision-Making

This program examines current surrogate decision making statutes for people who lack capacity to make their own health care decisions across the spectrum of health care interventions; major medical treatment, life sustaining treatment, palliative care, medical aid in dying. Faculty would be asked to comment on the intersection of surrogate decision making and supported decision-making models in health care settings. Ethical guidelines could be juxtaposed against statutory requirements and perhaps focus on the role of hospital ethics committees.
