Civil Collaborative Practice – The Evolution of Dispute Resolution

Collaborative Practice is a sophisticated dispute resolution process whereby clients actively participate (with the guidance of counsel) in a structured interest-based negotiation with the sole purpose of reaching a settlement outside of court. Collaborative Practice has enjoyed overwhelming success in family-related disputes here in the U.S. and internationally and continues to expand its reach into non-matrimonial conflict.
In this program, Marc Sheridan, Esq., AFHE Board Member, founder of the New York Civil Collaborative Group, trainer, Northeast Regional Chair of the Global Collaborative Law Council, and Chair of the IACP Trainers' Development Group, and Carmen Rodriguez, Esq., Rodriguez Law, matrimonial mediator and collaborative attorney, and a member of the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals, will discuss the “How and Why” of Collaborative Law, and their success in tailoring Collaborative Practice to family business, estate, and other commercial disputes.
Attendees will be introduced to the Civil Collaborative Practice structure, address its ethical compliance, understand interdisciplinary teams and roles in a commercial setting, learn about its application to the unique strengths and challenges of a family business, and other commercial and non-commercial disputes, and discover how they can make expand Civil Collaborative Practice, as part of their dispute resolution toolkit offerings.
Moderator: Hon. Marilyn K. Genoa (Ret.), Co-Chair of the NYSBA DRS CLE and Education Committee, Mediator and Board Member of the Global Collaborative Law Counsel.
