OVERVIEW
Who are we? New York State Bar Association and the Family Law Section
The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) is the largest voluntary state bar organization in the United States. It has been the voice of the legal profession in New York State for more than 140 years.
NYSBA’s Family Law Section brings together, for the furtherance of their mutual interests and the public interest, more than 2,000 members who are concerned about matrimonial and family law.
What is the Family Law Section Summer Meeting?
The Family Law Section hosts a 3-day meeting every Summer in a different city to provide matrimonial and family law attorneys the opportunity to meet, network and expand their practices. Our most recent meetings have been held in Saratoga (NY) in 2025, Boston (MA) in 2024, Lake Placid (NY) in 2023, Newport (RI) in 2022, Saratoga Springs (NY) in 2019, and in Manchester (VT) in 2018.

• Attend the program with faculty foremost in their field who will address the wide array of issues important to Family Law attorneys.
• Exchange ideas and strategies with other professionals on an informal basis.

AGENDA:
This year's NYSBA Family Law Section Summer Meeting explores the rapidly evolving intersection of technology, science, and matrimonial practice through a dynamic two-day CLE program designed for judges, attorneys, and family law professionals. Attendees will gain practical guidance on some of the most pressing issues confronting practitioners today, from the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and digital evidence to the growing role of addiction science in custody and financial disputes.
Participants will explore the emerging world of deepfakes, fabricated texts, altered screenshots, manipulated metadata, and AI-generated financial evidence, learning how to identify unreliable information, satisfy evolving authentication requirements, and effectively leverage AI tools in matrimonial litigation. Interactive breakout sessions featuring leading forensic accountants and business valuation experts will provide practical strategies and real-world insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by AI.
Featuring distinguished members of the judiciary, a nationally recognized expert, and leading forensic professionals, this program examines how courts and practitioners are adapting to rapidly changing technologies and emerging scientific developments. Discussions will address not only current best practices, but also the evolving legal and evidentiary issues that are likely to shape matrimonial litigation in the years ahead.
A leading expert in the neuroscience of addiction will provide a fascinating examination of addiction as a brain-based disease. Members of the judiciary will examine addiction and its implications for custody determinations, parenting issues, equitable distribution, and claims of marital waste. The program includes the always-popular Matrimonial Law Update.
Attendees will leave with cutting-edge knowledge, practical tools, and valuable perspectives that can be immediately applied in practice.

A nationally recognized expert on the neuroscience of addiction will examine addiction as a brain-based disease.
