Fundraising for Commercial Theater_675

The Theater and Performing Arts Committee of the New York State Bar Association’s Entertainment Arts & Sports Law (EASL) Section is pleased to announce an upcoming program FUNDRAISING FOR COMMERCIAL THEATER, to be held Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 5:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at Loeb & Loeb LLP, located at 345 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10154.

This program is in-person, as we resume gathering again after years of remote programming, and snacks and beverages will be served.  It is open to lawyers and theater-loving non-lawyers alike.

This program will cover the key elements associated with the fundraising for commercial theater, including (i) co-production and joint venture agreements among lead producers, (ii) front money and other early funding agreements, (iii) both developmental and commercial production entities and the offering documents associated therewith, and (iv) alternative forms of theatrical fundraising, such as non-private offerings and equity crowd-funding.

As with the previous program held in March 2023 on the subject of underlying rights agreements and author production contracts, special emphasis will be placed on post-pandemic trends in the theater industry as they relate to fundraising.

Join attorneys Jason Baruch (founding partner of Sendroff & Baruch, LLP), Carol Kaplan (partner at Loeb & Loeb LLP) and Scott Wilcox (senior counsel at Loeb & Loeb LLP), as well as Amanda Harper (director of investor relations at Foresight Theatrical), to discuss the most fundamental issue facing producers of commercial theater… how do we get the money?
