Long Term Care in COVID-19: Navigating Legal, Medical and Ethical Issues for Providers and Older Adults (Webinar)

LongTermCareinCOVID-19_675

This program will address the challenges presented by COVID-19 in the long-term care environment from both provider and older adult care recipient perspectives. Drawing on the New York State Bar Association COVID-19 Report, presenters will describe the crisis conditions in long term care as a result of the pandemic, federal and state responses, and the impact upon providers and vulnerable older adults and older communities of color across the care continuum. Topics covered will include Crisis Standards of Care, New York State Executive Orders and impact upon nursing facilities and the home care sector, and the central role of expanded palliative care and telehealth services. Cross-cutting legal, medical and ethical issues will be discussed, such as medical decision making in the context of severe COVID-19 illness, allocation of scarce resources, and workforce preparedness and training in a public health emergency.
