Navigating Military Culture in Legal Practice | Video Replay

This program is a recorded segment from the July 2026 Bridging the Gap CLE program.
Understanding military culture is an important component of effective client representation. Newly admitted attorneys may encounter service members, veterans, and military families across a wide range of practice areas, including criminal, family, housing, employment, and benefits matters. Recognizing the unique experiences and perspectives of military-connected clients can improve communication, strengthen attorney-client relationships, and help identify legal issues that may otherwise be overlooked.
This program provides an introduction to military culture, including the structure of the armed forces, military values, terminology, and the transition from military to civilian life. Participants will learn how military service may influence client interactions and legal needs, explore common legal challenges faced by veterans and service members, and develop practical strategies for interviewing, counseling, and advocating effectively for military-connected clients. The session will equip new attorneys with foundational knowledge and practical tools to better serve those who have served.
