Buenos Aires

Who are we?

New York State Bar Association and the International Section

The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) is the largest voluntary state bar organization in the United States and has members across the globe that have a nexus to New York law.

The International Section is one of NYSBA’s most active sections having over 2,000 members internationally with chapters in more than 70 countries worldwide and is NYSBA’s global representative and international advocate for the rule of law.

In addition, the NYSBA International Section brings members together to discuss and influence the resolution of key legal practice issues before local, state, national and international policy makers. Members include legal professionals from major international law firms, multi-national corporations, and other organizations that influence, and are influenced by, international law.

What is the Global Conference?

Each year, NYSBA’s International Section hosts a conference in a different city outside of the United States to provide American and foreign colleagues the opportunity to meet, network, and expand their international practices. Our most recent conferences have been held in Hamburg (2025), Seoul (2024), Mexico (2023), London (2022), New York City (2022), Tokyo, (2019), Montréal (2018), Antigua (2017), Paris (2016), São Paulo (2015), Vienna (2014), Hanoi (2013), Lisbon (2012), and Panama (2011).

Buenos Aires Conference Overview

The NYSBA International Section Buenos Aires Global Conference 2026 brings together legal professionals, regulators, financial institutions, bar associations, and industry leaders from across the Americas to examine the evolving regulatory, governance, and professional challenges shaping cross-border legal practice.

This 3-day conference contains high-level plenary discussions and substantive and practical panels with a strong focus on regulatory alignment, professional responsibility, technology, environmental disclosures, and the future of the legal profession. The meeting also offers networking opportunities in the form of extended breaks, luncheons, receptions, and dinners.

What will I get from participating?

The Global Conference offers participants opportunities to:

  • Attend programs with faculty foremost in their fields who will address both legal and professional issues and their impact on international practices;
  • Exchange ideas and strategies with other professionals on an informal basis; and
  • Meet and network with key players from leading international firms and businesses who share common interests and
  • concerns relating to international legal practice.

GETTING TO BUENOS AIRES

Buenos Aires is well-connected and easy to reach, with three airports, two coach stations, and a port and cruise terminal.

baires

Located on the shore of the Rio de la Plata, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires is the federal capital of Argentina.

By air

Buenos Aires is served by three airports:

  • Ministro Pistarini International Airport, Ezeiza (EZE) – The biggest airport in Argentina is located in Ezeiza, 32km (20 miles) from the centre of Buenos Aires city. Most long-haul international flights arrive and depart from here, along with some domestic and regional flights. The journey from the airport to the centre of the city takes about 50 minutes.
  • Jorge Newbery Airport, known as Aeroparque (AEP) – Located in the city itself, in the Palermo neighbourhood, this airport is within 25 minutes of the main hotels in Buenos Aires. It serves mainly domestic flights and flights to neighbouring countries.
  • El Palomar (EPA) – Located 18km (11 miles) from the city, El Palomar Airport began serving a range of low-cost domestic flights to destinations throughout Argentina in 2018.

Getting to the city from the airports

  • Taxisare readily available at all three airports.
  • Private transferscan be booked in advance or on arrival. Tienda León runs buses from Ezeiza airport to its base in Puerto Madero, in the center of Buenos Aires city.
  • All three airports are served by public bus lines, and there is also a train station at el Palomar. Nore that services can be crowded at peak times and there is little space for luggage. You’ll need a SUBE travel card to use the bus or train. These are available from authorised stockists. We recommend using the app  “BA Cómo Llego”to check how to arrive at your destination by public transport.

By coach

  • The Terminal de Omnibus de Retiro, or Retiro coach station, provides hundreds of coach services to destinations in Argentina and other Latin American countries. Long-distance bus travel is common in Argentina and most coach companies offer very comfortable “cama-ejecutivo” (executive bed) class seats, and often provide food on long-distance services. Dozens of companies operate from the coach station. Tickets can be bought at the booths on the upper floor, at authorised vendors in the city, or online. If in doubt, ask for help at our Tourist Assistance Centerat unit 83.

By boat

  • There are regular ferry services between Buenos Aires and Montevideo and Colonia de Sacramento in Uruguay. The ferry terminals in Buenos Aires are located in Puerto Madero and La Boca. The following companies run services:
  • Buquebus
  • Seacat
  • Colonia Express

GETTING AROUND

bares

Buenos Aires has a large, efficient public transport network, almost 40,000 licensed taxis, a hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus, and a vast network of cycle lanes

Get your SUBE card

  • To travel by bus or subte (underground metro) in Buenos Aires, you’ll need to get a rechargeable SUBE travel card and charge it with credit.
  • SUBE cards are available at subte stations, at our eight Tourist Assistance Centersand at many “kioskos” (corner shops selling confectionary and tobacco) throughout the city. Cards can be charged with credit at all subte stations, national lottery outlets, and at some kioskos with automated terminals. To find your nearest point of sale, the SUBE website has a map of SUBE vendors.

Check the interactive map

  • BA Cómo llego? (How do I get there?) is an online map and downloadable app that can help you find the best way to get from A to B in the city, whether on public transport, by car or on foot. Simply input your starting point, your destination and choose how you want to travel, and the map will suggest the best routes. Use the map on the websiteor download the app.

Subte (Underground train network)

  • The Buenos Aires subte was the first underground metro (subway) system in Latin America (line A opened in 1913), and it’s often the quickest way to get around the city, especially when travelling to and from the downtown area. There are six lines (lineas) A, B, C, D, E and H, which connect the city’s main avenues, train stations and coach stations. Lines A, B, C, D and E converge in the centre of the city.
  • Trains run every three to ten minutes depending on the line, from about 5.30am to 11.30pm Monday to Friday, 6.00am to midnight on Saturdays, and 8.00am to 10.30pm on Sundays and public holidays. Unsurprisingly, trains can get very crowded at peak commuter times (8am-9.30am and 5pm-7pm). The subte websitehas a detailed map of the network, and you can download a copy of the map as a pdf at the bottom of this page. Stations have free WiFi access.

Bus

  • Known locally as ‘colectivos’ or ‘bondis’, buses are a cheap and efficient way to get around the city. They run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and cover the whole city, meaning that you’ll rarely find yourself more than a few blocks from a stop. Tell the bus driver where you are headed (give the name of the crossroad nearest to where they wish to get off) and he will select the correct fare. The “Metrobus” is a bus rapid transit sytem using dedicated bus lanes to cut journey times on several of the city’s main arteries. Several Metrobus stops have free WiFi access.

Cycling and the city’s free bikeshare scheme

Train

  • The train is an option when it comes to reaching neighbourhoods further from the centre, or to visit destinations in Buenos Aires Province, such as Tigre and the river delta. Trains are economical and tickets can be purchased at the stations with cash or you can travel using the SUBE card. Trains for Tigre leave from Retiro Train Stationand pass through Belgrano C.

Taxis

  • BA is awash with licensed black and yellow taxis and in busy areas you’re unlikely to wait more than a couple of minutes for one. Often the most comfortable way to get from A to B, they can be flagged down directly off the street on the right-hand side – you can tell if one is available if the ‘libre’ (free) sign is lit up in the windscreen. Licensed taxis run on meters, and fares are exclusively in Argentine pesos (ARS $). It’s common to give a direction to the driver using the cross street, for example instead of saying “Corrientes 585” you would say “Corrientes y Florída”, since Florída is the nearest cross street to that address.
  • Private hire taxis called remisescan be booked in advance through agencies, and you can also book regular taxis using the city government’s mobile e-hailing app BA Taxi, available for Android and iphone.

Car hire & driving in the city

  • Many major car hire companies operate in Buenos Aires, in the city centre and at both Ezeiza (Pistarini) and Aeroparque (Jorge Newbery) airports. To hire a car you need to be over 21 years of age, have owned a driver’s license for at least 2 years and have the means to pay by credit card.
  • While you can often park in the street if there are spaces (a few central areas have parking meters), many people prefer the safety of parking their cars in an ‘Estacionamiento’ (garage). There are hundreds in the city, and you’ll rarely have a problem finding one. Just look out for the big ‘E’ signs.

And, it’s easy to explore on foot…

  • There’s so much to see and enjoy in barrios like San Telmo, Palermo Viejo and Soho, Recoleta, Balvanera and the microcentro (the central downtown area) that they are often best explored in your own time on foot. More and more central streets are being pedestrianized, with improved street lighting and more green spaces, greatly reducing car numbers and fumes.
  • See our Guided Toursfor free walking tours of the city.
  • See Getting to Buenos Airesfor information on how to get to the city from the airports.
