This year, NYSBA debuted a popular new benefit – 20 different packages of NYSBA’s Annotated/Automated Forms, created from our best-selling collection of legal resources.

Whether your practice focuses on personal injury, criminal law, probate law, residential and commercial real estate, or one of the other 15 packages of forms provided, these forms offer something for every legal practitioner’s needs.

From drafting a power of attorney form to handling a basic will, these forms are an essential component to anyone looking to expand their practice.

This member benefit, valued at $395, makes the cost of the new membership model well worth its price.

New and returning members will also receive new content from web-based platforms like NYSBA Weekly and the NYSBA News Center, as well as access to over 80 reference e-books to suit every practice area. These resources deliver content quickly and efficiently and help attorneys keep up to date on new developments in their areas of practice.

And members will still get in print and digital formats our premiere publication, the NYSBA Journal, along with State Bar News.

These are just some of the highlights of NYSBA’s member benefits. Your membership will also include the following:

  • A digital library of more than 500 articles published on our website, through email and on our social media channels.
  • Over 1,000 Ethics Opinions, delivering timely answers to complex issues.
  • Weekly Case Prep Plus updates.
  • Monthly New York State Law Digest e-newsletters.
  • Access to section journals and newsletters from 23 sections, providing insight, news and resources on various practice areas.

Award-Winning Reference Materials

NYSBA offers over 80 reference e-books written and edited by leading New York attorneys and judges. With extensive practical experience in every chapter, our texts of first reference contain detailed indices, tables of authorities, checklists, forms and practice pointers – resources necessary for you to run your daily practice. Print versions of these books will still be available for a fee.

Our publications are professionally copyedited and reviewed by one or more editors. Cite-checking of case and statutory references ensures that you receive information that is up-to-date at press time. Additional updates and supplementation keep these references current.

Digital titles include comprehensive treatises such as “Estate Planning and Will Drafting in New York,” “Probate and Administration of New York Estates” and our real estate titles. Membership also gains you access to the e-book versions of the award-winning New York Lawyers Practical Skills Series. This 15-book series covers all the essential areas of law, including criminal law practice, labor and employment law, matrimonial law, business and corporate law practice, guardianship, and arbitration and mediation.

Many of the NYSBA Automated/Annotated Forms packages are from the Practical Skills Series. These fillable forms are designed to save time when form drafting, eliminating the need for repetitive typing, cutting and pasting, and reducing the risk of error. The forms require no software download, feature an intuitive design that guides the user through the form questionnaire and include frequently asked questions for basic guidance when completing them.

Additionally, you can preview how the completed form will look as you progress through the form. Generate completed forms in multiple file formats: .pdf, .docx, or .rtf to print, download or email. NYSBA also offers an active product line of formbooks and downloadable forms to make processing your paperwork easier and more efficient. Many of the forms were prepared by attorneys for use in their firms and are now available to you.

Flagship Publication

That’s not all the practical content NYSBA provides its member attorneys. The NYSBA Journal is the association’s flagship publication. Published four times annually in print and available online, the Journal provides substantive articles and columns on the law, law practice, current legal trends and ethics.

Also, twice annually, NYSBA publishes the State Bar News magazine featuring association news and initiatives and spotlights on members. The State Bar News’ Annual Meeting coverage features highlights from panel discussions, networking events, awards presentations and continuing legal education programs.

In addition, membership includes the New York State Law Digest, a monthly wrap-up of significant Court of Appeals cases and statutory developments, as well as CasePrepPlus, a weekly newsletter that summarizes recent and significant New York appellate cases.

And if that wasn’t enough, NYSBA’s sections and committees –invaluable sources of substantive content – publish 26 journals and newsletters. You can also access the library of these materials dating back over the past couple decades. (For more information on the value of NYSBA’s sections, please see Drew Jaglom’s article in this same issue.)

In fact, you can already easily find a library of well over 500 articles from the News Center on NYSBA’s website. Content includes Journal and State Bar News articles, NYSBA Weekly content, select section and committee articles, and more.

The site also contains all the formal Ethics Opinions issued by NYSBA’s Professional Ethics Committee since 1952. You can find these on NYSBA’s website as well as in one convenient e-book all free with your membership. NYSBA’s Ethical Opinions have long been among the most searched for and read content on our website.
