Most people think that nonprofits don’t pay “taxes”. But what does that really mean? While nonprofits don’t pay income taxes on mission-related income, they may have to pay taxes on Unrelated Business Income or “UBI”. A sound understanding of UBI rules is important for exempt organization counsel in advising clients on the structuring of revenue-generating programs. This program addresses the meaning and application of UBI rules and the various exceptions/carve-outs to UBI.
