September 25, 2017: State Bar President Urges Support of Bar Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund
9.25.2017
Sharon Stern Gerstman, president of the New York State Bar Association, today issued the following statement encouraging support of The New York Bar Foundation’s disaster relief fund:
“Over the past several weeks, we have watched as hurricanes brought destruction to Houston, Florida, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and—most recently and intensively—Puerto Rico. Rebuilding needs will be great, as will the demands for legal services.
The NYSBA’s charitable and philanthropic arm, The New York Bar Foundation, is seeking donations to assist with legal assistance-related recovery efforts in these communities. Civil legal services providers are critical second responders in the aftermath of a natural disaster and 100 percent of the funds raised will support their efforts in the affected areas.
I encourage you to join me in supporting the work of the Foundation with a generous contribution.”
Attorneys and the general public are invited to contribute to the fund. Checks should be made payable to The New York Bar Foundation with the designation “Disaster Relief Fund” and mailed to The New York Bar Foundation, One Elk Street, Albany, NY 12207. Donations can also be made online at www.tnybf.org/donation. Select restricted fund, then Disaster Relief Fund.
The 72,000–member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
