Supporting Incoming Law Students Across New York State: Success Strategies with Attorney Well-Being

On August 4th, 2025, The New York State Bar Association welcomed incoming law students to the Attorney Well-Being Program with an online pre-orientation offering. The goal of this program was to introduce incoming law students to the Eight Pillars of Attorney Well-Being with representatives from the Law Education & Early Engagement Subcommittee. We heard from current students and recent graduates, Kumiko Dabney, Phoebe Steinfeld, Marco Caprioni, and Matt Gillam about their experiences finding balance through law school. As a state-wide entity, we aim to support students from every law program introducing productive coping skills early on to build more sustainable careers. The earlier you start, the easier it is to manage the high stress field of law. After learning about program initiatives and hearing thoughtful perspectives, participants of this program will learn to apply the Eight Pillars towards a strategic self-care plan. This program was made possible in part by a grant from The New York State Bar Foundation.
