February 8, 2016: New York State Bar Association Statement on ABA Resolution 105
2.9.2016
The New York State Bar Association President David P. Miranda today issued the following statement on Resolution 105, which was approved with an amendment by the American Bar Association House of Delegates.
“We are pleased that the ABA, in adopting regulatory objectives for legal service providers, has included a provision reaffirming its opposition to nonlawyer ownership of law firms and its dedication to the core values of the legal profession.
“Our Association will continue to act to protect the public by working to ensure that lawyers retain their ability to exercise independent judgment free of outside economic influence and that in New York, nonlawyers will not be permitted to provide legal services without being under the supervision of a lawyer.”
