New York State Bar Association Disappointed in Governor’s Veto of Death Gamble Bill

Domenick Napoletano, president of the New York State Bar Association, issued the following statement about Gov. Kathy Hochul’s veto of S7576A/A9143, which would allow a judge’s family to receive state-paid death benefits if a judge dies while in office:

“The veto of the ‘Death Gamble Bill’ by Gov. Hochul is a travesty for our judges and their families. Excluding them from this benefit that is offered to thousands of other state workers is an injustice. Surviving family members deserve access to pension benefits if their loved ones die while still in service. It is the least we can do to honor their dedication to the Empire State.”
