Daily Coronavirus Update: NYSBA & Seoul Bar Offer Mutual Support, Court Employees Test Positive

The New York State Bar Association and the Seoul Bar Association in Korea recently sent each other letters of support in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
“South Korea started a war against COVID-19 ahead of New York,” wrote Seoul Bar Association President Jongwoo Park. “Therefore, we fully sympathize with the situation and difficulties facing New York City, and as a colleague of this long war, the Seoul Bar Association will actively support the New York State Bar Association and get through immediate problems together.”
“While this worldwide pandemic may bring about great fear, it will not hold us back from actively helping our friends and neighbors, such as the Seoul Bar Association,” responded NYSBA President Hank Greenberg in a letter dated April 14.
During Annual Meeting in New York City on Jan. 29, Park and NYSBA President Hank Greenberg signed a historic memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two organizations.
The two leaders met during the American Bar Association’s 2019 summer meeting in San Francisco. There they discussed mutual cooperation and growth, and NYSBA extended an invitation to the Seoul Bar to meet in New York. The Seoul Bar Association has 20,500 members, about 74% of all lawyers in Korea.
The Seoul Bar Association sees the protection of basic human rights and realization of social justice as a global issue, one that NYSBA closely shares.
In Park’s letter, he said the Seoul Bar Association deeply appreciates its relationship with NYSBA.
“…[W]e hope that COVID-19 will soon be over and our precious life will be restored as soon as possible,” wrote Park. “We also hope that various projects between two bars including the young lawyer’s exchange training program, which we had set as joint goal, will be implemented at the earliest possible moment.”
Greenberg, in his response, noted that NYSBA looks forward to beginning the joint projects with the Seoul Bar Association when the crisis is over.
“We are glad to know that you and your colleagues at the Seoul Bar Association are safe and well,” wrote Greenberg. “We are grateful that we were able to come together only four short months ago to support our joint efforts of collaboration in the legal arena.”
Court Employees Test Positive
The New York State court system has a webpage that lists information about court employees at various courthouses who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Today the court system announced that an employee working at Nassau County’s County Courthouse located at 262 Old Country Road in Mineola tested positive. The employee last reported to the courthouse on April 7.
Cleaning protocols have been fully followed at each courthouse where an employee tested positive and notifications are ongoing.

The court system asks that if you have been tested or test positive for COVID-19 and have visited any state courthouse or court facility in the prior 14 days, please fill out and submit the Covid19 Test Result Form as soon as possible.
