How to Identify, Evaluate and Mitigate Structural Racism in Fair Housing

Municipalities often struggle to address issues concerning gentrification and diversification in housing. This session will discuss the impact of development on municipalities across NYS on fair housing and will explore concrete measures municipalities may take to further fair housing opportunities. Included will be a summary of current facts and figures of the housing market, as well as a discussion on strategies and funding opportunities available to create diversity in housing. Brooklyn Law School

Local and State Government Law Section Carol Van Scoyoc Scholarship Winner

Samuel Coffin is a third-year evening student at Brooklyn Law School. Before and while in law school, Sam has worked for the Office of the New York City Comptroller’s Bureau of Public Finance on a variety of issues related to the City’s finances and debt management program. His professional interests are primarily in the areas of administrative law and public finance. While at Brooklyn Law School, Sam has served as an Associate Managing Editor for the Brooklyn Law Review and has worked as a teaching assistant for civil procedure and as a research assistant in the field of administrative law.

Samuel says “It is an honor to receive the Local and State Government Law Section’s Carol Van Scoyoc Scholarship. As an evening student who has worked for the New York City Comptroller’s Office while in law school, I am excited to learn from such a vibrant community of practitioners in the field of municipal law.
