Six days after bail reform went into effect across the state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo began discussing adjustments.
The reform, predicted to reduce pretrial detainees by 90%, eliminates bail for defendants with misdemeanor and nonviolent felony offenses, according to governor.ny.gov.
But local law enforcement, district attorneys and state representatives have sharply criticized the law as too broad and not maintaining a judge’s discretion.
