Jury Trial and COVID-19 | Court of Appeals Update

The Section will present its Annual Court of Appeals Update, featuring Court of Appeals Judge Jenny Rivera. The program will also feature a panel examining the status of Jury Trials throughout the state.

Key Highlights and Takeaways
This Program will feature an analysis of cases and trends from decisions by the Court of Appeals during its most recent term, as well as practical advice for the conducting of litigation before a jury in the midst of our current, COVID-19 environment.

 

Wine Reception and Martin B. Adelman Award Presentation

Here’s how the wine tasting works:

Our virtual wine tasting will be presented by Philippe Newlin, director of Duclot USA and former Tasting Director and Associate Editor of Wine & Spirits Magazine. Mr. Newlin will guide the group through the tasting of the following recommended wines:

‘Tour of Bordeaux’

Participants are invited to purchase independently a bottle of one or more from the four categories below for the tasting at their local retailer. No purchase is required and you may participate in the event with any wine of your choosing.

  1. A Bordeaux Blanc such as Chateau La Fleur du Roi for (retails for approx. $ 10.99 / or Chateau Marjosse Blanc for @ approx. $12.00 )
  2. A St Emilion area wine such as Piliers de Maison Blanche 2016 from Montagne St Emilion (retails for approx. $ 19.99 (if only buying one this would be my recommendation)
  3. A wine from St Estephe or Pauillac such as Marquis de Calon st Estephe 2014 for (retails for approx. $ 41.99 – top wine)
  4. A Sauternes: Chateau Haut-Coustet (sweet wine) half-bottle (retails for approx. $ 22.95).

For Information about our Wine Expert Philippe A. Newlin

Philippe Newlin is director of Duclot USA, the fine wine importing firm owned by the Moueix family of Petrus fame. He is also a former Tasting Director and Associate Editor of Wine & Spirits Magazine where he spent two years running the tasting program.

Newlin holds the Diploma degree of the Wine and Spirits Education Trust of London, the highest accreditation of this important industry body. He teaches the introduction-to-wine courses at Columbia University’s School of Business Administration, Yale’s School of Management, where his classes sell-out quickly. He has also lectured at Wharton, Harvard Business School, Dartmouth’s Tuck School and WGBH Boston.

A native New Yorker, Newlin graduated from Trinity College with a B.A. in political science, and from Columbia’s School of International Affairs with a Master’s degree in diplomacy. Newlin has driven a yellow cab in NYC, lived in the jungles of South America as a Peace Corps Volunteer, and spent fourteen years on Wall Street trading floors as a currency options specialist at UBS and Bank of America before succumbing to the pleasures of the grape.
