August 18, 2015: New York State Bar Association Aims to Help Law Students and New Attorneys with Free Pathway Book

The New York State Bar Association wants to ensure that new attorneys have all the tools they need to become successful members of New York’s legal community.
Free to law students and newly admitted attorneys, the State Bar’s new book, Pathway to the Profession: From Law School to Lawyer, aims to help new attorneys hone their skills as practitioners. The book is a compilation of articles from various State Bar publications focusing on topics including starting a practice, attorney professionalism, technology, legal writing, marketing, and more.
“In law school, one learns about the law, but not necessarily how to practice it. Pathway is a guidebook to the practice of law,” said State Bar President David P. Miranda. “New York law and practice is the gold standard for lawyers throughout the world.”
The 430-page book is part of a program, Pathway to the Profession, established by the State Bar in 2014. The Pathway program provides support to law schools and students, and helps new attorneys transition into practice. As of June 1, students at New York’s 15 law schools are eligible for free State Bar membership.
Available as an e-book and in print, the book is free to law students and newly admitted attorneys.

Foreign addresses are not eligible to receive the print version. The book is $20, plus shipping and handling, for non-members.
The New York State Bar Association, with 74,000 members, is the largest voluntary state bar association in the country. It was founded in 1876.
