Boots on the Ground: Challenges Military Spouses in the Legal Profession Face, and the Steps Being Taken to Overcome Them on the Home Front
Maintaining a fulfilling legal career was, for more than a generation, incompatible with the military lifestyle until groups including the Military Spouse JD Network (MSJDN) stepped in. Licensing accommodation and bar waivers are some of the most effective updates being advocated for, and thanks to this complicated work, forty-three states have approved bar waivers. The COVID-19 Pandemic also played a part in opening the door for additional talented military spouses, attorneys and others, to obtain and thrive in remote work in the legal profession. The challenges being faced by military spouses are far from over, and groups like the NYSBA have an opportunity to lead in progress for these talented military spouse professionals.
