Manhattan Cocktail

1.5 oz Rye

.5 oz Sweet Vermouth

2 Dashes real bitters

Orange twist or Maraschino Cherry

Manhattan Mocktail

Ice

2 Dashes real bitters

1.5 oz non-alcoholic sweet red wine

1 oz. non-alcoholic vanilla extract

1 oz. unsweetened apple juice

Maraschino Cherry

Legend has it that this classy cocktail was invented in the mid-1870s at a banquet hosted in honor of Samuel J. Tilden, a then presidential candidate, at the Manhattan Club in New York City. The banquet was a huge success. In future get togethers, people requested the same drink they had at the Manhattan Club, which is how it got the name.
