New York State Bar Association President Sharon Stern Gerstman today applauded Governor Andrew Cuomo’s nomination of Paul Feinman as an associate judge of the New York State Court of Appeals.

She called for timely confirmation of Feinman by the state Senate. The State Bar Association has rated Feinman as “well qualified” to serve on the state’s highest court.

“Judge Feinman brings to the Court of Appeals 20 years of experience as a distinguished trial and appellate judge, earning wide respect within the legal community,” said Gerstman. “He has served as chair of the Judicial Section of our Association and as a member of our House of Delegates.”

“His historic nomination as the first openly gay justice on the Court of Appeals underscores the principle that all New Yorkers are equal under the law.”

If confirmed, Feinman would succeed Associate Justice Sheila Abdus-Salaam, who died in April.

The 72,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
