A Medical Overview of Long COVID and Unexpected Related Impairments
Speakers also consider the most common symptom clusters, and the similarities to myalgia encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and other post-infection syndromes. They look at the prevalence of Long COVID and the characteristics of those who have been affected by it. The program will explain the data available so far for this still-new and complex condition and discuss many challenges with diagnosis and treatment for long-haulers. It also focuses on the long-term effects on work-related functioning. An advocate leads a discussion about the broader context of the COVID-19 pandemic, including structural inequalities such as racism and racial disparities, healthcare barriers, poverty, and the intersection of Long COVID with the co-occurring mental health crisis.
