Criminal Justice Reform: Effects on DWI Cases (2019)
In April 2019, New York State passed sweeping criminal justice legislation, overhauling rules governing discovery. The measures go into effect in January 2020. This program will explore the provisions that reform discovery practices in DWI cases in New York and explain how the discovery that will be available is relevant to a DWI defense. You will learn the changes to New York’s discovery statute, develop a basic understanding of gas chromatography and be able to articulate to court’s and prosecutors what the law requires be turned over and why it is relevant to a DWI defense.
