Health Care Privacy, the Electronic Health Record, and Technological Development
The electronic health record is a central feature of health care and can be composed of electronic information from various sources, including those from remote locations (such as telemedicine) and created by third parties (such as providers of apps that monitor health data). This electronic health information may be subject to HIPAA and a failure to comply with HIPAA can lead to substantial penalties. This CLE program will consider the rules imposed by HIPAA, and the nature of the electronic health record. The program will also look to new sources of electronic health information and the challenges that may arise from those sources.
