This program does not carry MCLE credit.

Please watch the Women in Law Section on a virtual book club meeting titled “Breaking the Stigma of Addiction and Recovery in the Legal Profession.” October’s featured book, Girl Walks Out of a Bar, is author Lisa Smith’s memoir of her descent into and recovery from "high-functioning" addiction to alcohol and cocaine in the world of New York City corporate law. You will see Lisa participate in the meeting to discuss how addiction impacts women specifically, what recovery can look like, and the current movement in the profession and more broadly toward overall wellness. Girl Walks Out of a Bar is available for sale in eBook, paperback, and audiobook on Amazon.

Named one of The New York Law Journal’s 2020 “Trailblazers,” Lisa’s story launched her to the forefront of the movement to advance well-being in the legal profession. She speaks frequently at law firms, law schools, bar associations, and other organizations on these issues and co-hosts the podcast, Recovery Rocks, an inclusive discussion of issues affecting people in all kinds of recovery. She is also a founding member of the SHE RECOVERS® Legal Professionals group and serves on the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Depression Project, which works to break the stigma around all mental health disorders and to provide peer support. Lisa has appeared on TODAY, BBC World News, and FOX News discussing substance use disorders. Her writing has been published in The Washington PostChicago TribuneWomen’s Health, Refinery29, TheTemper.com, A Women’s Thing, and WorkitHealth.com, among others. More about Lisa can be found at lisasmithadvisory.com
