Intellectual Property in Our New Virtual World
Join us for a topical virtual conversational IP Section Annual Meeting and hear about the variety of legal and related business issues associated with intellectual property protection and the practice. Legal experts and corporate counsel will come together to talk about how they are “virtually” enforcing their intellectual property against infringement and counterfeiting; how companies are “pivoting” to maintain and/or increase brand value and/or market share; what steps are attorneys taking to make sure they are complying with their ethical obligations to clients and the security of their communications and meetings; and up to date global strategies for maintaining and securing your intellectual property portfolio. Our new virtual world offers much promise to intellectual property owners and practitioners, so we hope you can join us to learn how you can capitalize on these opportunities
Message from the Chair
“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”--Ruth Bader Ginsberg, JSC.
Leadership is an elusive concept. There is no definition that fits the great leaders that have come before us. Leaders come from every nook and cranny, and many of you are leaders in your communities, law firms and the many organizations that are in need of direction and leadership. As we embark on the rebuilding that will surely mark 2021, I call on all of you to help us in this monumental task.
Part of that leadership will be in accepting what we have learned in 2020, and implementing it in our daily lives and practices. If there is one word that describes 2020 when it comes to the practice of law, it is VIRTUAL! We have all struggled with what to many of us is a gregarious profession, with networking and hand-shaking part of our normal routines. That has given way to home offices, Zoom meetings, and even virtual court appearances.
The IP Section Annual Meeting and CLE will focus on IP Practice in a Virtual World, and out meeting co-chairs Leonie Huong and Marc Lieberstein, together with our active Committee Chairs and Section Officers, have assembled timely topics with exceptional speakers for the Annual Meeting.
Among other things, the two-day meeting – January 20th – 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. and January 26th – 8:30 a.m. – Noon – will discuss the practical, legal and ethical issues related to the virtual practice of law, both generally and specific to the IP practitioner. Topics will range from Brand Protection On-Line, to Diversity and Inclusion in the Virtual IP Workplace, to Taking Your Business On-Line. It is sure to be informative and invaluable to your practice, and because we can all attend the Annual Meeting from wherever we sit, for a great price, and with over 8 hours of CLE credit (including 1 hour of ethics), I encourage you all to consider signing up.
I will leave you with a message as you lead your respective teams and communities into 2021 – patience and perseverance! There will be more bumps in the road. We will face adversity. And it may get darker before we fully emerge from this Pandemic. But we will get through it together, with respect and civility for each other.
Happy New Year!
