Artificial Intelligence And The Law: Overview, Key Issues And Practice Trends

Artificial Intelligence and the Law_675

Imagine a ‘chatbot lawyer’ that passes the Turing Test. Imagine a machine that can ‘learn’ how to spot issues in a contract or predict outcome of litigation. Envision a non-human unit that can ‘review’ case law or legislation to provide a response to a legal question. You don’t have to simply imagine this, we can see it together in this session. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is rapidly creating a viable path from conjecture to reality on many such questions.

Learning Objectives and Takeaways

This session will examine from a practical perspective the multi-dimensional impact of AI on the legal landscape, both currently and with a view to the future. More specifically, attendees will come out of the session with:

•a foundational understanding of AI (including machine learning and deep learning) as a concept as well as its technical aspects, essential terminology and taxonomy and latest trends;

•practical demos of the current and foreseeable technical capabilities of AI in the legal field based on the criteria of value-creation, technical and business feasibility, and availability of data;

•given these technical capabilities, understanding of AI’s impact on the legal profession as well as its broader ethical implications; and

•knowledge of the key areas of legal regulation in the United States regarding the use of AI
