Justice Involved Veterans: How Veterans Treatment Courts Relate To The Military Experience

Justice-involved veterans come to the court with unique issues relating to military service.  This session will explore how veterans treatment courts are structured to deal with those issues, including mental health challenges veterans frequently deal with and how to make the best use of available resources for the benefit of the veteran and the community. The presenters will also discuss when participation in a veterans treatment court is appropriate and what do if there is no veterans treatment court available in the county where veterans’ case presides.

Immediately following the CLE program the Committee on Veterans will formally announce the Honorable Robert T. Russell, Jr. (retired) of the Buffalo Veterans Treatment Court as the winner of this year’s New York State Veteran Advocate of the Year.
