In this program Victoria Neilson, Supervising Attorney at the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild (NIPNLG) will discuss:

  • Current Interim Final Rule—changes to asylum procedure under the new rule: credible fear notes become asylum application; asylum merits interview; streamlined immigration court proceedings; phased implementation
  • Problems with proposed rule and litigation challenges

Speaker: Victoria Neilson, Supervising Attorney, (NIPNLG)

Victoria (Vickie) is a Supervising Attorney at the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild (NIPNLG). Before joining NIPNLG, Vickie was Managing Attorney of the Defending Vulnerable Populations program at the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc., where her work focused on asylum, removal, and trial skills trainings. She regularly presents with the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. Prior to her work with CLINIC, Vickie was the Legal Director of the Immigrant Justice Corps, the country's first immigration legal fellowship program. Vickie has also worked for the Refugee and Asylum Law Division of USCIS, and as Legal Director of Immigration Equality and the HIV Law Project. She has taught as an adjunct professor at CUNY School of Law and NYU School of Law. She is a graduate of CUNY School of Law and Harvard College.
