Federal and State regulations continue to be developed with the goal of protecting consumers from unfair or deceptive debt collection activities. In this presentation, we will discuss what the laws require, what compliance and procedural steps the firms will need to do to adapt, and the unintended consequences that may hinder creditors or consumers. The rules and laws we will discuss are Regulation F as set forth by the CFPB or the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; the Consumer Fairness Act (S153/A2382), and the the Consumer Statutory Interest Bill (S5724A/A6474A), that were signed into law by Governor Hochul in late 2021.
