New York State Bar Association President Richard C. Lewis issued the following statement about Gov. Kathy Hochul’s State of the State:

“Gov. Kathy Hochul has rightly advanced a forward-thinking agenda that prioritizes protecting New Yorkers at a time of great uncertainty and challenges. The New York State Bar Association commends and is allied with the governor’s ongoing commitment to combatting hate crimes to ensure every member of this state’s diverse population has the safety and security to pursue their dreams.

“The association also supports the governor’s focus on increasing mental health treatment and services and her efforts to increase access to justice by removing the cap on Supreme Court justices. “We stand ready to work with the governor and legislative leaders to achieve these and other proposals on which the association is aligned and look forward to seeing the details of these and other initiatives in the forthcoming executive budget.”
