The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together with Heather McGhee | Miranda Warnings

This week’s guest on Miranda Warnings is Heather McGhee, author of the book The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together. McGhee talks about the common root problem that’s preventing America from becoming the country it strives to be: racism.

McGhee, the former president of the think-tank Demos and current board member at Color of Change, discusses the costs racism has for white people and how it continues to be the common denominator of our most hard-to-solve public problems and the core dysfunction of our democracy.

She details the history of towns and cities across the country that shuttered public pools rather than integrate them and explains how what she calls the ‘Solidarity Dividend’, gains that come when people come together across race, to accomplish what we simply can’t do on our own, is the path for America’s multi-racial society to fully thrive.
