Michael A. Markowitz

Michael A. Markowitz

Upon graduation from law school, Michael (“Mike”) Markowitz began his legal career as an associate for Salamon, Gruber & Blaymore, P.C. and in-house counsel for European American Bank. In 1991, Mike started his own law firm, Michael A. Markowitz P.C., where he presently practices in Westbury, NY.

Committed to doing the public good, one may watch Mike in action volunteering his time as a chairperson for the Long Beach Board of Zoning Appeals, helping indigent litigants through the Volunteer Lawyers Project, mediating night small claims matters in the Nassau County District Court, and conducting free legal seminars through the Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA). He was a recipient of NCBA’s Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award.

Believing in the importance of the profession, Mike is presently a New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Vice-President for the Tenth Judicial District, representing the lawyers in Nassau and Suffolk counties. He was on NCBA’s Board of Directors for many years, chairing the Financial Oversight and the Community Relations Public Education Committees. He has authored many articles for the Nassau Lawyer on topics such as legality of rent from illegal apartments, application of the New Home Warranty Law, and questions concerning 1031 (like-kind) exchanges. Grateful for the value of his service, NCBA honored Mike with the Directors Award in 2016.

Mike is an avid skier, frequently enjoying the mountains in Colorado and Utah. During his off time, Mike likes to practice Yoga, travel, attend theatre, and visit museums with his wife Sharon.
